Unit 38: sound production

Ambient sound is essentially background noises that are not part of the main scene.
for example the sound of waves crashing on a beach scene.

Synchronised sound the words are spoken to match the lip movements often used in music videos or musical programs.

Voice over sounds are voices that you can hear but cant see anyone talking for example on documentaries like planet earth David Attenborough is the narrator and he is doing the voiceover.  adverts also tend to use voice overs.

Sound effects are added during the dubbing stage sound effects can be split into two types.
Sounds that fit whats going on in the scene and sounds that are in the background like ambient sounds.

Music is the final sound added in post production music is used to make the audience feel a certain emotion whilst watching the film, high budget films and TV programs will have music that is composed specifically for the film or show.

diegetic sounds is a sound where the source of the sound is present within the scene such as if the scene was someone driving a car the radio from the car would be a diegetic sound because you can see and know where that sound is coming from.

non-diegetic sound is sounds that only the audience can hear and the characters in the film/tv show cannot hear these sounds such as narrator or sounds that are added to the film for effect, mood music is also a good example of non- diegetic sounds.

Chanel No.5 perfume advert

The sounds in the advert are mainly made up of background music, dialog, a voice over and some small ambient noises. The music used in the advert is used to help tell the story and promote the product also the music helps the flow of the advert and helps the advert to flow because if it was silent it wouldn't be that good the choice of music is also a song that could be seen as a older music style to fit the audience and scene, the dialog in the advert is used to help tell the story, the voiceover is used to actually announce the perfume.

Foley sound effects:

the term used for manually creating sounds that sounds like what is happening in the picture.
for example the sound of horse hooves as a horse is running can be better created by bashing coconuts together.
